The real-life script of Kannada actor Darshan, handled by the films producers leaves you speechless by its utter chauvinism and hypocrisy. Sanchali grew out of a feeling of need to free history from the stuffiness of boring text and dark museums. By the time Dakshayini Gowda had completed her courses –BA in Fine Arts from Chitrakala Parishat, Bengaluru, and MA in Archeology and Museology from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda – she was thinking up ways of taking history to the people. Thus began Sanchali, which in Sanskrit means ‘movement’.

Two women, through a collection of short stories, explore the various aspects that go into making a good Indian girl. Stemming from incidents in their own lives, the book has been over five years in the making. Padmalatha Ravi reviews.
